Hearing Protection Fit Testing (HPFT)
Hearing Protection Fit Testing (HPFT) is completed as a preventative measure to help mitigate the risk of noise‐induced hearing loss (NIHL). It also ensures that the hearing protection being worn by the employee is accurate to the noise level worked in, as well as ensures an accurate fit to the wearer.
Alberta Occupational Health & Safety Code introduced this legislation to Part 16 – Noise Exposure to outline the importance of hearing protection fit testing of employees in areas where hearing protection is required. Employers must ensure employees are fit tested for the hearing protection they use and wear.
